In a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, we’ve learned that Apple has yet another feature planned for iOS 17 – and this one is a little different.
From what Mark says, we should expect iOS 17 to be able to turn your iPhone into a smart home display when locked, charging and placed in a horizontal position (think night stand mode on Apple Watch).

This “smart home display”, or whatever fancy name Apple comes up with for it, will function much like other smart home hubs like the Google Nest Hub, or Amazon Echo Show – allowing users to see weather information, notifications and pertinent calendar events.
Interestingly, Apple is also working on a similar interface for iPad as well; however, sources don’t expect that feature to be ready at a similar pace to iOS 17.
When you think about it though, a feature like a smart home display would be most at home (heh heh) on a device like iPad, right?
Either way, Apple deems it necessary to make your iPhone more useful when the device is locked, so here we are. Expect iOS 17 to rear its feature-packed head at the WWDC event on June 5th!
