No New Macs Until 2023, per report

RIP my dreams.

We have some sad sad news, my friends. In Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter he gives some insight into Apple’s strategy for actually getting these new Mac refreshes out – and it’s gonna be a hot minute, let’s talk about it.

From the mouth of the Mark himself:

I’m told that Apple is aiming to introduce the upgraded models—including M2-based versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros—in the first quarter of calendar 2023 and has tied the launches to the upcoming macOS Ventura 13.3 and iOS 16.3. Those software updates are expected to debut between early February and the beginning of March.

Mark Gurman

This directly contradicts recent word from Gurman that we should be expecting new MacBook Pro models and even a new Mac mini in November, however we live in a very changey world and Tim Cook is a mysterious boy.

Apple’s product announcement/release strategy has been a mess for the last 6 months or so, and it appears that Mac is not immune to the craziness. Mark now believes that we should expect the new Mac announcements to come with the release of software updates in the first quarter of 2023. Eh. Whatever.

We also have reason, also per Gurman, that Apple is gearing up to finally refresh the Mac Pro line with a shiny new M2 chip – Extreme or Insane or whatever cool fast name Apple gives it.

Let’s hope this new wave of product announcement speculation is more accurate than the last handful by Gurman. You can’t really strike out with analysis… but it does feel like he’s just throwing everything out there to see what sticks. Pretty soon Mark might just say “Apple is gonna release a new thing eventually“… and we’ll all clap.
