Oh boy, here we go. We’ve known that we should expect new iPad Pro models some time in October for a hot minute now, but this is the first time any sort of timeframe has been put on their announcement.
From the mouth of Lord Mark of House Gurman, first of his name (probably), we’ve learned that announcement of new M2-based iPad Pro models will be “in a matter of days”.
Apple Inc.’s next iPad Pro is arriving in a matter of days. The company is set to announce new 11-inch and 12.9-inch versions of the device, codenamed J617 and J620, that include the same M2 processor found in the latest MacBook Air.

So far, the only improvements we’re aware of is the upgrade to new M2 chips, with the iPad Pro models themselves looking just like the currently available selection. Since Apple considers this to be an “incremental” upgrade, we shouldn’t expect an actual event for announcement – just a sad little, boring press release.
Coming with the new iPad Pro M2 refresh, we should still be expecting an iPadOS 16 release as well, though we don’t have word yet on actually timing of that announcement. That release, of course, comes with the recently controversial Stage Manager feature.
I’m not disappointed per se, but I am a little bored of the idea of such an incremental refresh. I guess there’s nothing wrong with the current design of iPad Pro, though people said similar things about the previous MacBook Air before the recent M2 refresh – and look at the lovely new design on that puppy! Surely Apple isn’t completely and totally happy with the current iPad Pro design, right?
If Apple truly considers this to be an incremental update, when will the line get actually substantial changes? Who knows, really. There has to be some more room for innovation or change, I would hope. So let’s go, Tim, show us what Apple can do. Or, if you’re totally happy with iPad Pro design, disregard my boredom – that’s fair.
