Okay, so we learned last week that Apple may not be planning an event for October after all, potentially opting instead for some product press releases – so what’s changed? Let’s take a look.
In this week’s edition of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman has a few more things to say regarding the potentiality of an October Apple event:
I’m expecting updated Macs, iPad Pros and even—possibly—a new Apple TV to launch before the end of the year. I believe at least some of these products will roll out in October. But like I reported in Power On last week, these announcements may not come in the form of another flashy media event. I think the big iPhone 14 unveiling last month was probably it for Apple in 2022 in terms of major presentations. Anticipation should shift to next year, when Apple is expected to unveil the Reality Pro headset.

Okay, sheesh, we have a few takeaways here. Let’s work backwards. We’ve anticipated for more than a few months that Apple’s mixed reality headset could be making its first official appearance as soon as January of 2023 – it’s good that Mark still believes that’s on the horizon. As per last week’s Power On newsletter it looks like Mark still considers the potential for an October event to be dead, which is whatever I guess – but we have something very important to look at in his wording here.
When Gurman refers to some Apple products that have been expected for this month’s announcements he is very choosy with his approach; in reference to new Macs, iPads and Apple TV, Mark says ” I believe at least some of these products will roll out in October”.
Hmmm. What’s with the newly found lack of confidence in these products’ release? This is the first time we’re hearing of the potential of not getting new Macs, iPads or Apple TV. Hell, there’s been some people (incorrectly) theorizing that we could even see a new Mac Pro show up this month. So now Mark believes “at least some” of them will be announced.
Is this just Mark Gurman covering his ass as we get closer to potential announcements? Or does this indicate a lack of certainty on Apple’s part? It’s hard to say. It follows suit that Mark could be giving himself an out, as has happened in the past:
Either way, October is already a confusing mess for Apple as far as what we should even be expecting. So far all we can say is Apple maybe might release something… potentially. So thanks for that, Mark.
