Alright, so last Friday one of FPT’s buddies Luke Miani tweeted out that something… weird… was happening to his iPhone 14 Pro Max in third-party apps that use the camera like SnapChat, TikTok, etc – check it out and then we’ll talk about it:
Okay holy crap, let’s break this down. Luke’s iPhone 14 Pro Max camera is shaking, vibrating and audibly grinding. That is not supposed to happen on a new thousand dollar iPhone. Since Luke’s tweet, we’ve been seeing reports of the same issue crop up all over Twitter, Reddit, TikTok and more places.
Here’s a tweet by DongleBookPro that Luke shared showing off what the video looks like when the camera is spazzing out like that:
We’re still in the early stages of this issue, but we do know via Luke and some others that this issue seems contained to third-party camera apps however if your iPhone experiences this problem it will leak into affecting the Apple Camera app for a time afterwards – causing issues with focus and blurriness.
Check out today’s FPT if you haven’t already regarding this issue and more:
Apple has yet to comment on this problem, though many news outlets have reached out for comment so hopefully Apple is doing some hard investigating. Hell, we don’t even know if this is a software or hardware issue yet. Of course if it’s software Apple can just release some sort of update to fix it but if it’s hardware – big YIKES. Luke was able to take his iPhone to the Apple store and exchange it out for a new one, but who knows how widespread the issue could be and what Apple’s plans are to fix it.
Of course you can test your own iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max if you’d like to see if you experience the same issue but do so at your own risk – we don’t know yet of any long term problems this could cause and if they are fixable.
What a mess, dude. Is this quality control? Is it a software bug with SnapChat and the like? Who knows. Either way this is disappointing coming from such a major company like Apple. Get your sh*t together or this is going to be a #CameraGate.
