With September’s Apple event looming ever closer, it seems like we get another product release added on every ten friggin’ minutes! The new hotness is a very anticipated refresh of Apple’s AirPods Pro and Mark Gurman gives us the deets!
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman says that alongside the iPhone 14 and new Apple Watch models… we can also expect to see the second generation of AirPods Pro make their debut:
The new AirPods Pro will update a model that first went on sale in October 2019. I reported last year that new AirPods Pro would arrive in 2022, and now I’m told that Wednesday will be their big unveiling.

Yes! Finally! The AirPods Pro are still one of Apple’s products that most urgently need a refresh, they’ve been around for almost 3 years so it’s most certainly time. Sadly, Mark doesn’t currently have any pricing or dates for availability of the AirPods Pro 2, or whatever Apple-like name they’ll come up with (hint: they’ll probably just be called AirPods Pro again).
As for new features, we’re pretty in the dark as far as absolutely credible, recent reports are concerned; however, if we take a step into the rumor-room from months past we could anticipate the AirPods Pro second gen to come with a new H2 chip for improved audio, Find-My enabled charging case, as well as better in-ear detection, fitness tracking capabilities, and more (potentially).
Reports have been pretty scarce for the features of an AirPods Pro refresh, and even the report I linked above by Kuo is from December of 2021, so we’re flying blind here. Either way, Apple is a predictable company when it comes to one of their most popular products, so it’s reasonable to expect incremental improvements – with maybe a lil’ touch of fun thrown in.
As long as these things are even slightly better than the current AirPods Pro I’ll be a happy guy, they’re seriously one of the best headphones ever released (in my opinion) and if we just get more of that then I don’t see Apple missing. Let’s cross our fingers for Wednesday!
