Ahhhhh, well that’s a refreshing headline. I was just thinking about what it would be like to be back in the 2010’s again, and here we are! Samsung’s latest “Buckle Up” ad throws a couple of punches at Timmy and crew, but do the blows actually connect?
Here’s Samsung’s “Buckle Up” ad spot, featuring the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Z Flip4 with a side of sass set aside for the upcoming iPhone 14 event:
Eh, that was a lukewarm diss at best. I’m a little disappointed if I’m being honest; in the past Samsung had quite a few bangers trashing iPhone and Apple alike, and they were pretty well received! I’m of course referring to 2018’s “Ingenious” ads:
Now THOSE ads were going for the throat! That’s how you make fun of Apple, right there. However, Samsung actually deleted all of their “Ingenious” ad spots so I had to find a compilation on some random guy’s YouTube channel.
Their new “Buckle Up” ad isn’t bad per se, but it lacks actual controversy. The “Ingenious” ads made fun of things like the iPhone’s lack of headphone jack – which was heavily criticized at the time, whereas “Buckle Up” just says… “Samsung camera do good zoom more, don’t you wanna look at da moon? iPhone can’t look at moon”
Appreciate the fun, Samsung, but I’m gonna need you to put in like *this* much more effort. We all know you have it in you, so next time you gotta really give Tim the ol’ one-two!
