2022 iPad Pro Getting Mysterious New 4-Pin Connector, per report

What a ✨mystery✨

We have a brand spankin’ new report from the folks over at Macotakara stating the upcoming iPad Pro for 2022 could feature a shiny, new, mysterious 4-pin connector along the top and bottom side edges… what could it mean?

Well it could mean a whole lot of stuff, honestly. More importantly though… what the hell are we gonna do with a 4-pin connector? Even Macotakara points that confusing detail out:

Since the Smart Connector is a 3-pin design and the MagSafe 3 connector is a 5-pin design, it is possible that it is equipped for some other purpose.

Exactly. Da f**k is Apple gonna tell us to plug into that? A 4-pin molex connector for old-ass hard drives?

Seriously though, Macotakara thinks it could be a connector to help power peripherals that connect via Thunderbolt/USB-C but I’m not sure I’m buying it.

If Apple is keen on using a new 4-pin connector instead of the current 3-pin Smart Connector that’s EVEN WORSE. That would mean no current gen Smart Keyboard and Magic Trackpad. Literally an AWFUL idea. So hopefully it isn’t that.

They say the report comes to them from “reliable sources in China” so we’ll just have to take their word on it. I’m really banking on the 4-pin molex idea though.
