We have yet another analysis from the lovely Ming-Chi Kuo – he gives some insight into who’s giving Apple all their fancy shmancy new lenses 👀
Kuo tweeted a link to his Medium blog, where he often goes in depth regarding supply chain info – a great read if that’s your cup of tea. Most recently he gave us some updates regarding the main supplier of iPhone 14’s wide lenses, Sunny Optical!
Now generally speaking, the Chinese company Sunny Optical is still new to being BFFs with Apple; however, they’ve been upping their game as of late and becoming the main supplier for iPhone 14’s new wide-angle 7P lens.
Kuo tells us more regarding Sunny Optical’s growth and their future with Apple:
Sunny Optical’s capacity has increased significantly, so the company will continue the price war to obtain more Apple orders and raise utilization, Sunny Optical may become the main supplier of the ToF lens for iPhone 15 in 2023.

This is particularly exciting, because iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are touting new camera features as a main selling point – pretty standard “new iPhone move” there, Tim. We’re anticipating a 48MP wide sensor for the first time and with that comes some newly hyped possibilities like AI-based scaling to up detail in photos and kill the noise.
Man, new camera tech is always cool, huh? Or is that a nerd thing? Well you’re on this site, reading this post – so HAH.
