Meta announced yesterday that they’re going to be raising the price of their Quest 2 VR headset at the beginning of August, and they say it’s for a good reason – we’ll just see about that.
Both models of the Quest 2, 128GB and 256GB, are increasing $100 in price – so $399.99 for the 128GB and $499.99 for the 256GB.
Per Meta’s announcement:
In order to continue investing in moving the VR industry forward for the long term, we are adjusting the price of Meta Quest 2 headsets

What a move. Did Meta not get the memo that after hardware has been out for a couple years it’s common practice to lower the prices, especially if you aren’t adding any new features?
In a reply to that tweet, they also mention from the start of the price increase until the end of the year the Quest 2 will come bundled with the popular title Beat Saber free of charge. I mean, okay cool, but Beat Saber is like $30.
I can’t get over how straight-up WEIRD this move is. Is Meta trying to sell less Quest 2 headsets? I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this all pans out, but my money is on it ending badly.
