Well it took a while, but here we are: Nothing has finally announced its first phone, the Phone 1. What a fun naming scheme. Definitely not annoying to keep talking about and typing.
But hey! The phone is pretty darn cool, and after weeks and weeks of teasing it, Phone 1 needed to be the cooliest. This is the first phone by Nothing, a company helmed by OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. Everyone has been waiting to see his first big venture after separating from OnePlus – and here it is.
That was definitely a compelling video. The Phone 1 is without a doubt the most visually striking phone to be released in recent memory – you’ll definitely stand out holding this guy.
What’s more is the very respectable spec sheet, the Phone 1 is offering:
- 6.55-inch OLED display with HDR10+ and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate (huge)
- 8 or 12GB of RAM
- 128GB or 256GB of storage
- a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset
- 2x 50MP rear-camera lenses (one main and one ultra wide)
- 16MP selfie camera
- 5G and WiFi 6 support
- 4,500mAh battery with wireless charging
- USB-C charging port
Phone 1 will also have an extraordanarily barebones operating system referred to as Nothing OS. This harkens back to OnePlus’s original philosophy of offering a truly clean experience, free of any manufacturer bloatware – it’s great to see.
Now FrontPageTech.com will never be a tech spec-heavy website; however, the specs of the Nothing Phone 1 are very important to know considering the phone’s starting price…
£400, or around $475.00 (not currently available in the U.S. ☹️)
Really let that sink in. This Phone 1, with specs like THAT 👆, with the incredible design, is an absolute terror of a value proposition. I remember very fondly the launch of the OnePlus One and the excitement of such a disruptive piece of tech to the market… and to my dismay, of the man bugs that followed.
The Nothing Phone 1 is shaping up to be a fantastic device that will hopefully unsettle some very comfortable smartphone companies without breaking the bank, and with some luck – be relatively bug-free.
