Ahh yes another tale from the Land of Gurm! Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter has clued us in that the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 will alert the wearer if it detects a high than normal body temperature, referred to as a fever by such medical professionals as I.
Per Mark, the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a built-in temperature sensor, which among other things will allow it to detect fevers in the wearer.
You can expect some new health-tracking features in this year’s Apple Watch. In April, I reported that Apple has been aiming to add body-temperature detection to its Series 8 model, assuming the capability passes muster during internal testing. I now believe the feature is a go for both the standard Apple Watch Series 8 and a new rugged edition that’s aimed at extreme sports athletes.Mark Gurman
The feature still has to pass Apple’s internal testing, but once it does we can expect it to be standard across Series 8 models – which is awesome. If everything goes smooth, we’re gonna see more headlines of how the Apple Watch saved another life. Now if Apple Watch could just do my taxes and cook for me.
The new temperature sensor will be the first health-related feature added since the blood oxygen sensor in Apple Watch Series 6. Back in January, Gurman noted Apple’s internal chatter of the body temperature sensor had been slowing down; however, it appears that enthusiasm for the feature is up internally and has been pushing development forward.
In my opinion this would be a fantastic addition to Apple Watch’s already impressive health and fitness features. Apple is truly leading the pack in wearables here.
