It happened! Today, Google officially tweeted a thread of “previews” regarding the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro — confirming our leaks from 3 months ago.

Back when we gave you your first look at the devices, we also claimed that Google would be changing the naming of the devices — getting rid of the Pixel “XL” branding, and instead start using “Pro” branding.
Our report stated that Google was switching to “Pro” branding to effectively separate the two devices, and make clear that the Pixel 6 Pro will be a more premium experience. In fact, today, Google called the Pixel 6 Pro “ultra high-end”, which they admit will “certainly be a premium-priced product”.
Design

Google started their thread by tweeting an image of the back of both devices — Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, showing you something nearly identical to our renders from May, 2021.

Here’s a look at the front of the Pixel 6 Pro. Official image vs. our render from May.

They even went as far as to confirm the weird “champagne” color we saw:

Tensor
Perhaps the main reason Google “teased” this device early, was to give us more insight into their own custom SoC (system on chip) that we’ve been hearing so much about.

Specs
Google was willing to share some specifications today, including:
Pixel 6
- Display: 6.4 inches, 90Hz
- Dual cameras, main + ultra wide
- Custom chip
- In-display fingerprint scanner
Pixel 6 Pro
- Display: 6.7 inches, 120Hz, curved
- Triple cameras, main + ultra wide + 4x telephoto
- Custom chip

That might be all that Google was willing to share, but In case you missed it, last month we previewed the full spec-sheet for these devices in this exclusive.
This isn’t the first time that Google has confirmed leaks early, but it is interesting to see them openly “preview” the phone ahead of the launch of Apple’s iPhone 13.
In fact, both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are already listed on the Google Store — but you can’t buy them just yet.
