UPDATE 6/27/21: We’re hearing that the event date for Unpacked has been moved to August 11, 2021
Original story below:
Early this month, we reported that Samsung plans to launch both the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 on August 27th — that’s referring to the date of a market launch, by the way, not the announcement. We’re hearing an announcement date of August 3, 2021, where we’ll likely see an Unpacked Event. The phones will then launch on our reported date of August 27th, 2021.
I’m told that earlier this week, Samsung kicked-up mass production for both the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3, ordering a staggering 50,000 – 70,000 units A DAY of each device. I say “staggering” because that’s much higher than what they produced of the previous models.
They’re reportedly looking to produce a combined 7 million units for these devices, so they’re getting started with mass production a bit earlier this year, to be ready in time for launch. For context, they only produced a combined 1-2 million units of the previous models.
This is following last year’s successful launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 2, which reportedly sold better than expected.
It’s safe to say that Sammy feels good about these phones and is willing to invest more to produce more, betting on customers wanting more foldables than ever in 2021.
